How Connecticut honors one of its greatest inventors
Colt Gateway: In Hartford, Colt created an "industrial paradise" complete with armory, gas works, a reservoir, waterworks, warehouses, docks, depots, and factories. About 165 years later, Homes for America Holdings have set forth plans to establish 300 residential units, as well as create retail and commercial space from Colt's 17-acres of land. The organization also plans to dedicate a museum to Samuel and his wife's legacy.
Colt Park:
Colt donated 106 acres of land to the state in 1900. From that land, the state created a park with vast amounts of activities to take part in along with memorial statues of its donator. The statue of Samuel Colt reads, "On the grounds which his taste beautified by the home that he loved this memorial stands to speak of his genius, his enterprise and his success and of his great and loyal heart. His wife in faithful affection dedicates this memorial, 1905."
